Do I need a consultation? We offer consultation on the day of the treatment where the clinician and the client will go through a medical form, client consent and discuss risks, concerns and aftercare before going on to the treatment. If clients wish to have a separate consultation this can be arranged.
-
How long does the procedure take?We do book 30 min an appointment slot, an injection takes around 8 -15 minutes to complete a lip enhancement.
-
I am not sure how many ml should I have?Whether you book in for 0.5ml or 1ml the technician will discuss options on the day to help advise which is best suited for the client. Bear in mind 0.5ml is usually only required for people with existing dermal filler who wish to have a 'top up' or for suitable for those that have very little lip tissue and cannot gracefully stretch to 1ml, or for more mature clients who wish for a very slight enhancement to the lip. Almost every client will have 1ml on their first time, as this is a good base to being with. We usually recommend 0.5ml to clients that have already had 1 – 2 ml and just require a slight ‘top up’ to get their lips back to fullness they had when they first had the treatment.
-
Will I swell and bruise? This differs from client to client. We advise clients to take arnica tablets and anti-histamine on the lead up to their appointment to help reduce or ease the possibility of bruising and swelling. In some cases clients may have extreme swelling which generally subsides within 24 hours and bruising may take between 2 - 10 days to reduce. Typically people will be 10-30% more swollen on the day of the treatment, this will usually subside within 24 hours. The area will feel tender and small bruising can appear on the lip from the incision holes. On some occasions clients may get bruising around the lips, this may be caused if a blood vessel is torn when performing the injection, this is nothing to worry about and is a very small risk. Typically it’s the morning after that your lips will feel the most swollen.
-
I am not good with needles or pain! What can you do?We advise clients to take the time to allow themselves to relax, by taking deep breaths. We take the time to ensure clients are ok, by consistently checking in on them and stopping for a breath, if needed. We do our best to make you feel as comfortable as possible during the treatment. Topical numbing cream can be applied to the area to reduce discomfort, we advise clients to purchase their own numbing agent prior to the treatment.
-
How often can I have my lips filled? We advise waiting at least 1 month before adding more filler to the area. It differs on person to person dependant on how much tissue they have naturally, as to how much filler is suitable for them without creating an unnatural looking lip enhancement. Your technician will advise how much filler and when you can have more filler on your treatment date.
-
How long does it last?Fillers last between 3-12 months, sometimes longer. It varies for each individual. Things that may reduce the longevity of the filler are; regular intense exercising, dehydration, fast metabolisms and excessive sun exposure.
-
Can I share or split my syringe with a friend or take it home? No, we only use 1 syringe per client due to hygiene issues, any remaining filler that is not used is discarded due to contamination risk and arranged to be collected by our sharps management company.
-
Can I fly after I have had a treatment? We recommend booking your treatment 1 week prior to flying to allow for any swelling and bruising to reduce and to ensure that there are no medical complications.
-
What can I do to reduce down time?We advise clients to visit their local pharmacy for arnica tablets and antihistamine. Taking these one week prior to treatment may help to reduce bruising and swelling post treatment. We also advise avoiding heat on the lips such as hot tea or coffee touching the lips and propping yourself up slightly in bed. We also advise clients to drink lots of water prior to treatment.
-
Are your products cruelty free?We offer Revolax dermal filler which are vegan.
-
Do you use cannula? We do offer cannula technique for lips depending on desired look.
-
What are the serious risks?Swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising to the area are normal post procedure and can take up to 1- 2 weeks to fully settle. Vessel occlusions or compression is when the filler blocks or compresses the blood flow to the lips, if not treated quickly enough this can lead to necrosis of the tissue, frontally this is a very rare complications, especially in the lips as they are very durable with good blood supply. We are trained to use hyalase which when injected, breaks down the filler instantly which will return the blood flow. We will discuss these complications and what to look out for on your consultation.
-
How do I know a vascular occlusion is taking place?Vessel occlusions are extremely rare but can happen to anyone and with any injector. Your technician is consistently looking for signs of vessel compression when performing the treatment by analysing the colour of the skin and performing a capillary refill check. Compressions show themselves as white or grey areas, when the blood flow is constricted or blocked. The technician uses heat and massage to help manipulate the filler to aid blood flow in the area. We advise the client to take aspirin to further help dilate the blood vessels. If this technique has no effect then a patch test for hyalase injections take place and then injected to flush the area, this product breaks down dermal filler instantly and works for up to 24 hours. Your technician will be in close contact with you at this time and a resist will be necessary to examine the area.
-
What happens if I have a problem out of hours? If you are experiencing an adverse reaction to dermal filler it is important to contact your clinician via email or phone. If this is happening out of hours when the clinic is closed it is important to take the initiative to contact an out of hours Doctor or Hospital to be checked over. No matter what clinic or what technician you use it is important to seek medical help if you cannot contact your technician.
-
Am I suitable for nasolabial fold correction? We can treat clients who have soft or fine nasolabial folds. This treatment is not suitable for those that have a heavier fold to the skin.
-
Will I need to take the next day off work ?We don’t think it is necessary for people to be too concerned about swelling as it usually fairly minimal and goes down with 24 hours. However each client is different and we cannot guarantee how much they will swell. I would advise that clients allow a week prior to a major event ( weddings, birthdays etc ) as it is possible you may have bruising. Most of our clients continue to work the next day without much discomfort or swelling.
-
What happens if I don’t like It?If you don’t like the result of the Lip Enhancement treatment we offer a dissolving treatment which is injected into the area’s and breaks down the filler. This will be at the cost of the client.
-
Once you start do you have to keep it up?No. Filler dissolves slowly over a long period of time. The lips are very stretchy and durable and won’t be left looking ‘Baggy’ or over stretched. They will eventually return to their original size.
